What is a chalet?
The original meaning of the18th Century Swiss-French word Chalet is Herdsman’s hut or Alpine cottage.
Hard to believe when you think about what we use them for today.
Whether you have skied passed or stood outside of one of these impressive wooden dwellings, with their gently sloping roofs with a wide overhang and ornate wooden carvings you must admit they are a far cry from their original intended use.
Nowadays, a chalet can host up to 20+ guests with luxury services rivalling those found in 5-star hotels.

Courchevel Moriond 1650
If you are looking for a laidback and more down to earth atmosphere, then Moriond is for you. The village has a high ratio of self-catering apartments and chalets. There is a supermarket in town and less emphasis on high-end designer shops. Apres-ski is good with many bars and eateries. If you find this appealing, finding affordable luxury chalets in Moriond will not be a problem.
1550 is a quiet village nestling at an altitude of 1550 metres. Luxury and tranquillity are here in abundance. Rustic bars and little shops line the village. Feed yourself on fine local Savoyard food. If you feel the urge to indulge in 1850 sophistication take the ski lift and you will be there in five minutes.
Courchevel Le Praz
Le Praz sits at the lowest altitude of all the Courchevel villages on a 1300 metre plateau. Here the soul of this authentic mountain village blends with the infamous Courchevel luxury. Given that it is small, walking around the streets, you feel you have entered a maze. Numerous bars and eateries line the streets or are tucked away and no need to go to 1850 for Michelin stars as they shine bright in La Praz. With a brand new high-speed 10-seater gondola which gets you up to Courchevel 1850 in six minutes. Who will be in your group?
There is a lot to think about when booking your luxury chalet. Here are a few pointers to help you on your way.
Who is in your group will determine the type of accommodation you rent and the services and facilities you require.
The amount of people you are bringing determines the number of bedrooms you need. Remember some friends and family will not be compatible in the same room.
Do you need a separate room for your nanny? Require a playroom facility for children? Bunk beds for children. A garden and terrace are useful when it is warmer. How old are your children? How well do they ski? Will you book a place for them in ski school? Or will they ski with family and friends?
The competent skiers will benefit from a ski-in ski-out facility and having their boots pre-heated in the morning. Is the Chalet close to ski lifts? non-skiers will benefit from extra facilities in the chalet, such as; swimming pool, gym, wellness spa and sauna.
